Patch budding is an easy grafting technique that is used to replace or add a new tree variety to a tree's rootstock.
A bark patch containing a dormant bud from the new variety to be grafted is secured onto the rootstock where a same-sized bark patch has been removed.
The double blade on this budding knife creates 2 parallel cuts that ensure the "patch" containing the bud (scion) is the same size as the patch on the root stock receiving it.
The patch budding size created with this dual blade budding knife is 30mm.
This grafting knife is ideal for patch budding a wide range of plants and trees, including nut and fruit, natives, and ornamentals. Examples are pecans, walnuts, citrus, pomes, olives and passionfruit.
