What is a Heirloom Seed?

The definition of an heirloom seed is a seed that has been grown and passed down over many generations. Since agriculture began, people have been choosing the qualities they like in a plant and saved those seeds to grow year after year. This plant selection can only be done with open pollinated seed.

What is an Open Pollinated Seed?

Open pollination means the flowers are fertilised by bees, moths, bats, birds and even the wind or rain. The seed that forms produces the same plant next year.

Seeds Grown in the Blackwood Valley by Pear Cottage

Pear Cottage is a boutique seed merchant in the Blackwood Valley in the South West of WA.  They currently supply a small, seasonal range of cottage garden flower seeds and vegetable seeds for the kitchen garden.  Their seeds are lovingly gathered from gardens that share an organic approach to gardening.  They believe in a gentle approach to gardening, and all begins with the seed.  They hope these seeds bring joy.

The front of the seed envelope displays a hand drawn image of the plant, a description of the plant and its uses, sowing information, and the number of seeds.

Come in store and browse our seed selection of vegetables, herbs and flowers, both common and the unusual.
