Fruit Bagging Guide for Pest Protection

1. Apples and Pears

• When to Bag: When the fruit is marble-sized or 2-3 weeks after blossoms drop.

2. Citrus (e.g., oranges, lemons, limes)

• When to Bag: When the fruit is 2-3 cm in size.

3. Stone Fruits (e.g., peaches, nectarines, plums)

• When to Bag: About 6-8 weeks before harvest when the fruit is half its mature size.

4. Figs

• When to Bag: As soon as the fruit starts to swell.

5. Grapes

• When to Bag: When grapes begin to change color (veraison stage).

6. Mangoes

• When to Bag: When the fruit is the size of a golf ball (55–65 days after flowering).

General Bagging Tips

• Use breathable bags like paper or mesh to prevent rot.
• Secure bags tightly around stems but leave room for growth.

Harvest Without Harm - Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2019

This product is compliant with the Animal Welfare Victoria Harvest Without Harm initiative. If you live in Victoria, netting used to protect household fruit trees, vegetable gardens, or other fruiting plants must have a mesh size of 5mm x 5mm or less at full stretch.

If you use netting to protect your household fruit or vegetable plants in Victoria, you will need to comply with this mandatory requirement introduced under Victoria’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2019 (POCTA Regulations). Netting fruit trees with larger holed mesh risks causing significant injury or death to wildlife such as possums and birds due to entanglement.
