Large Insect Hotel:
These insect hotels from Alfresco Gardenware, will not only provide a decorative element and point of interest in your garden, they will help attract important beneficial insects and pollinators to your garden by providing them with somewhere safe to live and/or breed.
The various bamboo tubes and wooden dowels with small holes will provide a home for native bees like blue banded and resin bees. Ladybirds, lacewings, paper wasps, spiders and other beneficial insects may also make their home in and amongst the different size tubes.
Available in either a black painted finish, or natural finish with a zinc roof.
Why should we have one in our garden?
An insect hotel is a safe habitat for solitary bees, butterflies, ladybirds and other beneficial insects which will increase biodiversity and integrated pest management in a garden.
Bees will lay their eggs in the bamboo tubes and fill them with food to ensure the next generation have what they need after hatching.
Predatory wasps will stuff the tubes full of greenfly larva, aphids and caterpillars to feed their emerging young.
Each insect will contribute to a healthier and more dynamic ecosystem in your garden.
Where to hang in your garden?
Insect hotels should be hung preferably near multiple food sources ie flowering or fruiting plants, and a water source such as a shallow bird or bee bath. Out of direct weather or sun will also help prolong the life of your insect hotel.
