Handmade Micro Bat Box

All About Micro Bats:

Not to be confused with their large fruit eating cousins, micro bats are insectivorous, consuming vast quantities of insects every evening. Known to eat up to 500 insects per hour and up to 40% of their body weight in an evening, these hard working creatures can help control insect populations in your garden.

By day, these bats need a safe and dark roosting site, usually tree hollows, however they will also roost in structures such as roof cavities or purpose built bat boxes. They live in small family groups and will alternate from roosting sites across their home range. In many gardens where natural hollows are rare, the provision of bat boxes can be the missing link to support a local population of micro bats.

Where to Install Your Micro Bat Box:

Simply hang one or more bat boxes in different parts of your garden to provide a variety of roosting sites. The best location is on a tree at least 4 meters from the ground.
