Beeswax Votive Candles, Chittering Candle Company

Beeswax Votive Candles:

These votive candles have a burn time of over 6 hours and will create the perfect ambience to any room with their beautiful glow and natural honey scent. Beeswax candles burn brightly without leaving a dripping, toxic mess.

Made entirely from West Australian Beeswax and individually hand poured, every candle is a little bit unique. Naturally scented with honey and floral nectar, these Candles contain no artificial scents and emit negative ions to purify, cleanse and improve air quality. With the highest melting point of all known waxes, WA Beeswax Candles give a burn time up to 5 times longer than soy or paraffin based candles,  and burn very cleanly with little smoke when wicks are properly trimmed. The little that remains at the candle’s end of life is fully compostable.

While they may be more expensive than the alternatives, the environmental and health benefits and extended burn time of these Beeswax Candles makes them the obvious choice for the eco-friendly home.

Price is per candle.

Also available: Beeswax Birthday Candles!

How to Use Beeswax Votive Candles:

These “naked” votive candles must be burned in a purpose-designed votive candle holder or the wax will run to the edge of the container you're burning it in.

A tealight candle should ideally be burned in one sitting. However if you would like to burn your votive over 2 sessions, burn it for a least 2 hours to ensure that your candle has burned to the edge of your container before extinguishing, and that there is at least 6-10mm of wax remaining, otherwise there will not be enough wick to consume all of the remaining beeswax.

Once the candle has finished burning down to the wick sustainer, or metal disc at the bottom, simply put the holder into the freezer for a few hours or over night, at which point you should just be able to gently tap the holder upside down on a bench top to allow the disc and any remaining wax to fall out. Then you can refill with a new votive. Never just put a refill candle on top of the prior candle's metal disc.

Hints for Burning Your Beeswax Candles Efficiently:

All Beeswax candles need to be burned for a long enough time until the liquid wax reaches the outside edge of candle - usually at least a couple of hours depending on size of candle. If you do not do this, it will never burn out to the edge and you will be left with a lot of unburnt wax. This is generally a requirement every time you light your candle, however, beeswax in particular is quite forgiving so if you do have to blow them out sooner from time to time, the candle should be able to right itself if given a proper burn the next time.

Once beeswax candles have burnt to the outside edge, it should just continue to burn cleanly, without dripping, while releasing a beautiful, light honey scent, and a calming, warm ambience.

Why Choose West Australian Beeswax Candles?

Western Australian honeybee colonies are among the last populations in the world to remain unaffected by pests and diseases like the small hive beetle and varroa mite. WA beeswax is free from nasties like oxalic acid residue, pesticides and antibiotics. The absence of disease and chemicals make WA beeswax one of the purest in the world.

Most commercially produced candles are made with paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum oil and may produce harmful by products when burned or melted. Paraffin is not particularly eco-friendly and has been known to have adverse effects on our respiratory systems.

Soy-based candles can come with their own problems too. Most soy is grown from genetically modified beans with extensive use of chemicals and pesticides, and these may remain present after processing. Most soy candles can also include palm oil.

    Western Australian Beeswax is:

    • environmentally friendly, safe and non-toxic
    • burns exceptionally clean with little smoke when trimmed properly, as it is not an oil-based product.
    • 100% natural and biodegradable, and undergoes no chemical processing
    • the only candle wax that emits negative ions to purify, cleanse and improve air quality
    • beautifully and naturally scented by honey and floral nectar in the honeycomb
    • hypo-allergenic and beneficial to those with environmental allergies, sensitivities and asthma
    • a renewable fuel
    • free from toxic Toluene and Benzene fume emissions, unlike some paraffin waxes

    Safety and Candle Care

    • Extinguish all candle/s when leaving a room and/or before going to sleep. Always keep a burning candle within sight.

    • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire or is flammable such as bedding, curtains, carpet, paper, etc...

    • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

    • Do not place lit candles where they could be knocked over.

    • All candle wicks new or burned should maintain a wick of ≈ 0.6cm - 6mm before lighting.

    • Keep burning candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, air-conditioning & vents. This will impact the performance of your candle and can cause the candle to drip.

    • Candles should be positioned in a candle holder which is flat and level.

    • Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.

    • Discontinue burning a candle when 1cm of wax remains. Beeswax is compostable so can put into the garden or mulch pile.

    • Never move a burning candle when the wax is liquid as this could impact the performance of the candle.

    • Never move a burning candle when the wax is liquid as this could burn unprotected skin if spilled.

    • Place burning candles at least 7.5cm apart from another. If too close the candles can impact each other's performance.

    • Use a candle snuffer to extinguish, never blow candle out as it will smoulder producing smoke and soot.

    • Never extinguish candles with water.

    • If your candle is flickering repeatedly, smoking, or the flame becomes too high, extinguish the affected candle. Let the candle cool, trim wick to correct length (0.6cm - 6mm), check for drafts, then re-light and monitor.

    The Chittering Candle Company

The Chittering Candle Company is the brainchild of the multi-talented Rocket (aka Rodney) who, together with his family, left the hustle and bustle of Perth for the delights of the Chittering Valley in an effort to find a balance between Nature and the modern world. On discovering that most candles are made abroad using highly processed methods with the addition of chemicals and synthetic perfumes, they were inspired to use sustainable methods to create healthier, better quality candles themselves.

Not only is Rocket an expert candle maker - he has recently created the gorgeous new shelving and display units you'll see when you next visit us at Urban Revolution. Rocket's work has changed our lives and made a visit to our store an even greater experience for our customers. We can't wait to see what he'll come up with next!
