Bring all the birds to the yard with these cute little Bird Nesting Houses. These handmade houses are made from hogla leaves with jute stitching by Fair Trade artisans, located in the Saidpur region, northern Bangladesh. Bird Nesting Houses make a great ornamental garden piece and depending on a few external factors, a useful nesting box for local bird life.
Hollows of trees are the natural habitat for many species of fauna. In the absence of hollow bearing trees a Bird Nesting House or a Small Bird Nesting Box can introduce a hollow to your garden to attract both birds and mammals. Whether a bird or other animal decides to visit your Bird Nesting House depends on a variety of considerations. Here is some information and suggestions.

Hogla is a grass-like plant that is grown alongside river beds and canals in Bangladesh. It is a sustainable, rapidly growing material and farmers are able to plant their Hogla fields for free using rhizomes from their neighbours or their own existing fields. Once the leaves are harvested and dried they are used extensively to make mats, baskets, ropes and different kinds of handicrafts.
Jute is a natural vegetable fibre made from plants belonging to the same family as hibiscus and mallow (Malvaceae). It is a eco-friendly and biodegradable alternative to other synthetic counterparts.
As the Bird Nesting House is composed of all natural materials, once this product has outlived it's use it is 100% home compostable.
